LCVP( Enterprise) and TY trip to visit the House of Waterford Crystal

The LCVP students and TY1, along with their teachers Ms Cooney and Ms Brennan visited the House of Waterford Crystal on Friday, 25th November 2011. The visit was enjoyed by all.

The students had a tour of the factory, which was extremely informative. The girls saw the glass blowing department, the marking room, the cutting wheels, and the engraving department. Pieces of crystal were blown and moulded before their eyes.

The students learned about the production, design and marketing of the crystal and were told about the history of the company and the takeover of Waterford Crystal by KPS, an investment company.

The girls can now complete their summary reports on this visit to a local enterprise.

LCVP and LCA Trip to the Chocolate Warehouse

The LCVP and LCA enterprise classes recently visited the Chocolate Warehouse in Dublin. A talk was given on the history of chocolate and many aspects of the chocolate production business were discussed, including marketing strategies, usage of ICT, recruitment, sales, competition and health and safety. The visitors are given a chocolate demonstration on how chocolates and Easter eggs are made.

Following the talk there was a "hands on" session. The girls put on aprons and started the business of coating chocolates, adding toppings and hand piping with white chocolate.
All participants got to decorate, package and keep some of the chocolate to bring home.

The chocolate workshops were started by Natasha Caffrey, a granddaughter of the late Thomas Caffrey, known as ‘The Irish Willy Wonka’. Caffreys manufacture Snowballs, Tea Cakes, Macaroon bars, Big Time bars and many other chocolate products.
